Royal Norwich Golf Club – The Stables Clubhouse

In 2019, after 126 years on the edge of Norwich, Royal Norwich Golf Club relocated to a spectacular new 350-acre site within the Weston Estate. The move marked a new chapter for the club, combining a championship golf experience with world-class hospitality facilities.

The Stables Clubhouse

At the heart of the development is The Stables clubhouse, designed by Fielden + Mawson Architects and constructed by PJ Spillings. The project carefully refurbished and reimagined the estate’s original manor house, retaining its traditional character while introducing The Yard—a striking central open-plan space within the U-shaped layout.

A defining feature of this contemporary space is the installation of an impressive 18-metre-wide, 6-panel set of theEDGE2.0 sliding doors, complete with matching overlight fixed frame glazing. The doors meet centrally and slide effortlessly to each end of the opening, creating a dramatic, uninterrupted connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape.

Connecting inside and out

Overlooking the putting green, first tee, and extensive practice facilities, the glazing system transforms the space. During the summer months, the doors fully open to extend the hospitality area onto the terrace, delivering a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. When closed, the ultra-slim sightlines of theEDGE2.0 system maintain a near frameless appearance, allowing natural light to flood the interior while preserving panoramic views across the course.

The result is a space that balances heritage with modern design – offering both performance and aesthetic impact. Since opening, The Stables has quickly established itself as one of Norfolk’s most talked-about hospitality venues, welcoming golfers, diners, and event guests alike, whether members or visitors.

A stunning golfing and leisure facility

Beyond the clubhouse, the par-73, 18-hole championship course – designed by Ross McMurray – provides a challenging yet versatile playing experience. With five tee positions, the course can be played from 5,339 to 7,209 yards, catering to golfers of all abilities.

Royal Norwich now stands as a benchmark for contemporary golf and leisure developments, where thoughtful architecture and advanced glazing systems like theEDGE2.0 play a central role in elevating both experience and design.
