Ground floor extension of South London terraced home

Adding an extension (complete with 3-panel SUNFLEX SF55 bifold doors) and remodelling the ground floor of the property has completely transformed and modernised this South London, mid-terraced home.

The brief for ARCHEA Architecture was to increase the usable space at ground floor level, replacing a previous lean-to extension to provide an open-plan kitchen and dining area that connected to the landscaped garden.

The clever design of the overhanging roof along with the installation of the bifold doors at an angle helps to protect the rear of the extension from the weather, allowing the doors to be opened far more often than would otherwise be the case.

The bifold doors are installed with a low-threshold track that provides a minimal 14mm upstand, providing protection from drafts and water ingress whilst still maintaining a continuous floor level between the kitchen and the patio.

The refinishing of the house replaced smaller rooms with larger light-filled spaces, whilst a palette of vibrant materials and colours added character to the traditional style of home.
