Modern multi-story house with large glass windows and sleek aluminium sliding doors, surrounded by trees and greenery. A sloped garden leads to the entrance.

Iconic three-storey house with incredible views

Sitting on a steep hillside overlooking the River Avon on the Hampshire and Dorset border, Folding House is a stunning three-storey contemporary home designed by the brilliant team at AR Design Studio that feature six sets of narrow framed aluminium sliding doors.

The sloping site provided the inspiration for the design, with the lower two storeys embedded into the hill side, minimising the impact of the home on its surroundings and allowing the structure to nestle within the established woodland that encloses the property.

The house appears to step down the hill with the entire rear elevation featuring large expanses of glazing including fixed frame windows and theEDGE2.0 sliding doors to maximise the view over the river and open countryside beyond.

On the top floor of the house, the only element of the structure visible from the road, is the open plan living space including a 6 panel set of corner opening sliding doors, with four panels opening across the rear elevation and two returning at right angles to provide unobstructed panoramic views and seamless connection with the terrace.

On the second floor is the main bedroom accommodation of the home, with three sets of 2-panel sliding doors filling the rooms full of light whilst the bottom storey is home to the guest accommodation which also benefits from a pair of twin panel theEDGE2.0 sliding doors with incredibly narrow 20mm sightlines.

The aluminium frames of the doors perfectly contrast with the timber cladding, whilst the structure of the storeys appears as a continuous ribbon that wraps around the floors providing the angles that make this house so distinctive, whilst the terraces are surrounded by glass balustrades to make minimise the impact on the view.
