IDSystems was engaged by Berkeley Homes to advise on the design and installation of glazing systems into ten townhouses at the heart of their award-winning Cambridge Riverside development on the banks of the River Cam.
Each contemporary home feature an open plan kitchen, dining and living space on the ground floor of the three-storey terrace. This living space is connected to a courtyard garden by a six panel (3-left, 3 right) set of SUNFLEX SF55 bifold doors which feature a flush track to allow for a continual level floor inside and out.
Above the doors is a lean-to glass roof, which was designed in six sections to perfectly complement the sightlines of the bifold doors below. The addition of the glass roof on the rear of the townhouses not only extends the useable space on the ground-floor but also helps to flood the interior or the property with natural light.
The doors and roof are both dual coloured, featuring an anthracite grey (RAL 7016) finish on the outer surface of the aluminium to perfectly complement the exterior fascia of each property. whilst the interior of the aluminium is coloured traffic white (RAL 9016) to match the internal surfaces and finishes of the living space.
The Riverside development overlooks Midsummer Common in the heart of the city and was built on the former site of Cambridge Regional College. In addition to the ten townhouses, 195 one, two and three bedroom apartments were also incorporated into the design on the site.
