What is a heritage door?

Heritage doors are modern aluminium framed doors that are designed to replicate the appearance of traditional Art Deco style steel framed doors. Also known as ‘steel-look’ the doors combine the latest in thermal performance and weather protection with the much sought-after look of horizontal bars across the glass and slender frames.

Can heritage doors be double glazed?

Yes, heritage doors will typically always be double glazed for external uses, to meet the energy efficiency standards required by modern Building Regulations. Where once the size of glazed doors was limited by the dimensions of available glass units, now modern double glazing can be produced in much larger sizes and to much higher quality standards.

Are heritage doors energy efficient?

Compared to traditional steel doors that are forged with solid steel frames, aluminium heritage doors are incredibly energy efficient because they are manufactured with a polyamide thermal break between the inner and outer aluminium frames which improves insulation and significantly reduces heat lost through the frames.

What is the difference between heritage style and industrial style doors?

Typically there is very little difference, the name ‘industrial-style’ comes from the use of glazed screens in factories and warehouses in the early 20th Century, a style that transitioned into residential properties in more recent times as these period commercial buildings were converted into modern loft-style apartments and homes.

What types of heritage doors are available?

Where once heritage doors were limited to single or French doors with or without fixed frame windows, modern glazing technology provides far greater options. The Art Deco inspired heritage doors can now be manufactured as sliding doors to match the look of large glazed screens, as bifold doors that can completely open up to create a seamless connection between inside and out, or internal heritage doors to help partition open-plan living spaces.

We were very impressed by the design, fit and overall appearance of the door system. Please pass on our thanks to both teams of fitters and especially the surveyor who came to measure the arch originally for his time and accuracy - despite awful weather conditions.
